  • Description

At Lansing, Michigan International Students' Day attracts several thousand foreign scholars now attending colleges and universities in that state.

Concentrating on studies of our system of government, industry, and agriculture, the visiting students were personally escorted by Michigan governor G. Mennen Williams. Nearly fifty nations were represented.

One of the highlights was a visit to state legislature in Lansing. Getting a first-hand introduction to American government and politics in action, they met and spoke with legislators.

Part of the industrial tour for the international students included a visit to the Oldsmobile plant. With Governor Williams again playing the role of guide, the young men and women from overseas watch the miracle of the automobile assembly line. Chasis parade by...and huge bodies are gently eased into place.

American farming methods and American farm machinery were demonstrated and displayed at the University of Michigan's experimental grounds. The tandom-tractor is a new idea...new even to our own farmers. It's a busy program, International Students day...informative, friendly, and important to America's relations with these future leaders of countries overseas.
