    THE TEN SHIPS ARE PART OF THE MEDITERRANEAN SQUADRON, COMMANDED BY VICE-ADMIRAL ANDRE JUBELIN FROM DE GRASSE.UNDER A NEW DEFENCE PLAN, FRANCE IS EXPECTED TO SHIFT MOST OF HER NAVY FROM THE MEDITERRANEAN TO THE ATLANTIC BY 1965.

    PERHAPS THE PRIDE OF THE VISITING SHIPS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER CLEMENCEAU (27,000 TONS).THE CLEMENCEAU, LAUNCHED AT BREST IN 1957, HAS JUST GONE INTO SERVICE.SHE HAS A COMPLIMENT OF MORE THAN 2,200.
