Background: VISNEWS cameras filmed the scenes of jubilation at Adelaide Cricket Ground Feb 5 as Australian batsmen Burke and Favell scored the last few necessary runs off Colin Cowdrey to beat England in the Fourth Test. Little boys invaded the field grabbing for the stumps, while flustered umpires made futile attempts to keep them off.
With an hour and quarter to spare Australia beat England by ten wickets and so retrieved the Ashes she had surrendered at the Oval five and a half years ago. Australian 1st innings 476..England 1st innings 240--2nd innings 270. It seemed that Graveney and Tyson would hold up a rather weary Australian attack enough to salvage the minor satisfaction of another draw, but this partnership was broken.
Analysing the four Tests it emerges that Australia were stronger at Batting and Fielding but England's bowling was superior. Unfortunately the batsmen did not strike their usual form to support them.
The first Test at Brisbane was won by Australia....8 wickets.
Second Test at Melbourne won by Australia..........8 wickets. Third Test at Sydney.....................................Drawn Game. Fourth Test at Adelaide won by Australia............10 wickets.
The fifth and final Test will be played at Melbourne Feb 13-19.
