Background: Military advisers of SEATO (South East Asia Treaty Organisation) began a three-day conference in Bangkok, Thailand, March 22nd.
Main item at the meeting was the crisis over Laos. The final communique said that in Laos, "Communist support to Pathet Lao has created a dangerous situation," emphasising the need for continued solidarity between the eight SEATO nations - Australia, France, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand, Britain and the USA.
Laos will again be the main topic when the SEATO Foreign Ministers begin their meeting, also in Bangkok, on March 27th. The British Foreign Minister Lord Home, said March 24 there was a good chance Russia would accept a new British peace proposal for Laos.
