    HE ARRIVED TO START HIS FOUR-DAY VISIT ON MONDAY, AND WAS WELCOMED WITH A 21-GUN SALUTE AND A THUNDEROUS ROUND OF CHEERING FROM THE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE AT LOME AIRPORT.

    PRESIDENT TUBMAN WAS MET ON HIS ARRIVAL BY PRESIDENT GRUNITZKY.

    THE TWO PRESIDENTS WERE SCHEDULED TO HOLD DISCUSSIONS ON AFRICAN AND INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS. PRESIDENT TUBMAN SAID HE HOPED THE TALKS WOULD HAVE REPERCUSSIONS IN OTHER PARTS OF AFRICA IN THE INTERESTS OF AFRICAN UNITY.

    TOGO AND LIBERIA HAVE CLOSE TRADITIONAL TIES. HUNDREDS OF TOGOLESE EMIGRATED TO LIBERIA DURING THE PRE-FIRST WORLD WAR GERMAN OCCUPATION OF TOGO.

    PRESIDENT TUBMAN WAS DUE TO LEAVE LOME TODAY (FRIDAY) FOR A STATE VISIT TO DAHOMEY ON HIS WAY HOME TO LIBERIA.
