  • Description

The Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, Holland -- now partially reconstructed -- will be officially opened as an international youth centre on May 1st. Hundreds of young people from Holland, France, Britain, and also Germany, will be present for the opening.

On the ground floor, a conference hall has been built where, during the War, there was a warehouse. The offices and store-rooms which used to occupy the first floor have been replaced by an exhibition room. It contains copies of the Diary in many languages, photographs of Anne Frank, and some of the books she used to read.

The back rooms in the upper floors of the House, where the Frank and Van Daans families hid from the Gestapo, remain unchanged. Access to these rooms is through a door concealed by a book-case.

Anne Frank was in hiding with her family from July 1942 to August 1944. Following the Gestapo raid, Anne Frank was sent to Belsen Concentration Camp, where she died from typhus in March 1945.
