    SWEDEN'S TORSTEN HALLMANN HAS WON THE BELGIAN 250 c.c. MOTORCROSS GRAND PRIX TO TAKE 13 POINT LEAD IN THE RUNNING FOR THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. BAD WEATHER HAD MADE THE COURSE AT KEMMEL HILL IN FLANDERS SO BAD THAT THE JUDGES HAD TO ALTER THE ROUTE AT THE LAST MINUTE.

    HALLMANN NOW LEADS THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP LIST WITH 22 POINTS, FOLLOWED BY FELLOW SWEDE BO PETTERSSON, WHO HAS NINE POINTS, THE OTHER WORLD LEADERS ARE VICTOR ARBEKOV OF THE USSR AND JOEL ROBERT OF BELGIUM.

    ARBEKOV, THE PRESENT WORLD CHAMPION, TOOK PART IN THIS YEAR'S BELGIAN EVENT, BUT HE DIDN'T REACH A PLACING IN THE FIRST SIX. JAPAN WAS REPRESENTED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A EUROPEAN MOTORCROSS BY TWO OF HER RIDERS ON SUZUKI MACHINES.

    THERE WERE THIRTEEN NATIONS REPRESENTED AT THE START OF THE RACE. BELGIUM'S JOEL ROBERT TOOK AN EARLY IN THE FIRST EVENT, BUT MECHANICAL TROUBLE HELD HIM BACK AND OPENED THE FIELD FOR HALLMANNTO TAKE FIRST PLACE, WITH PETTERSSON SECOND.

    IN THE SECOND RACE, ROBERT AGAIN SWEPT INTO THE LEAD, AND THIS TIME HE HELD IT, WITH PETTERSSON AGAIN SECOND.

    THE FINAL RESULTS PLACED HALLMANN AND PETTERSSON FIRST AND SECOND. THIRD WAS ROGER DE COSTER OF BELGIUM, WITH JO LAMMERS OF HOLLAND FOURTH AND BELGIUM'S ROBERT REACHING ONLY FIFTH PLACE.
