  • Description

In Bali, talks for more than four hours on Wednesday (September 3rd) opened two days of informal discussions between Indonesia's President Suharto and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.

No official announcements were made on subjects discussed but informed sources said Prime Minister Lee had given support to Indonesian intervention in Portuguese Timor where current civil unrest has virtually overshadowed the talks.

The talks also culminated with the announcement of an ASEAN summit meeting to be held in Bali within the next six months. It's expected the summit will give fresh impetus to the Association of South East Asian Nations in the light of communist victories in Indo-china this year.

According to informed sources, other subjects discussed in the Bali talks were stepped up joint naval operations between Indonesia and Singapore and relations between the two countries and China. indonesia and Singapore are the only two ASEAN members without full diplomatic ties with ???.
