Background: The National Liberation Front in South Vietnam on Saturday (15 April) announced that they had seized the provincial capital of An Loc, north of Saigon.

On Friday (14 April) the North Vietnamese claimed its defence forces shot down six U.S. planes in souther parts of the country north of the demilitarized zone. The claim brought the number of U.S. planes downed in the past two weeks to 29.

In Hanoi, the progress of the National Liberation Front's campaign in South "vietnam is daily reported in newspapers and on television and radio. A special exhibition at the Tran Tien on the main street of Hanoi shows war situation in Indo-China. Visitors can see photographs of U.S. pilots shot down over North Vietnam.

Because of increased U.S. bombing of North Vietnam, the Defence Committee of Hanoi and Haiphong have warned citizens to build more air shelters in case of emergency.
