  • Description

CROSSING A RIVER WITH THE EASE OF AN AMPHIBIOUS CRAFT - THE M-113 ARMOURED PERSONNEL CARRIER. THE WEAPON THE VIETCONG FEAR MOST IN THE WAR IN SOUTH VIETNAM.

IT IS MADE OF LIGHT ARMOUR AND CAN CARRY 12 MEN. THE CARRIER IS USED LIKE A TANK. IT CAN PLOUGH ACROSS RICE FIELDS LIKE A BULLDOZER, AND CROSS BOGS ALMOST AS EASILY.

HOWEVER, THE VIETCONG HAVE DISCOVERED TWO WAYS OF STOPPING THESE VEHICLES: ONE IS WITH LARGE ELECTRICALLY-DETONATED LAND MINES; THE OTHER IS BY DIGGING A DITCH IN THE ROAD LONG ENOUGH TO BURY THE VEHICLE'S NOSE WHEN IT CROSSES IT.

AN EXAMPLE OF THIS SECOND METHOD IS SHOWN ON FILM, WHICH WAS TAKEN ON FRIDAY IN LONG AN PROVINCE AS THE SOUTH VIETNAMESE ARMY MOUNTED ANOTHER OFFENSIVE AGAINST THE VIETCONG.
