Rhodesia..and on Thursday (16 November) the transitional Government announced that it has postponed black majority rule until next April. The postponement mens a for month delay in the transition programme, drawn up by Premier Ian Smith and three black nationalist leaders last March.
One of those black leaders - the Reverend Ndabaningi Sitehole - who leads the Zimbabwe African National Union - returned to Rhodesia from a curtailed world tour on Wednesday, (15 November) for what was to be a crucial meeting. The coalition spent ten hours in discussion. An announcement read later outside Ian Smith's office said one man-one vote elections would be held on April the 20th. Mr Sithole said the December 31st election date was impossible to meet.
