Background: This is the laboratory of accelerators and photonuclear reactions at the Physical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

Research work on the most important problems of physics is carried on here with the help of synchrotrons. At the end of October, Pavel Cherenkov, Igor Tamm and Ilya Frankly scientist of this Institute, were awarded the Noble Prize for the discovery and interpretation of an interesting and important physical phenomenon. The discovery of the Soviet physicists went into the treasure of world science as the "Cherenkov Effect". Pavel Cherenkov was in his laboratory as our cameraman called on him.
