  • Description

    Denmark now has its
seventh woman priest - Mrs. Ulla Heje who is to serve in a church outside
Copenhagen. This appointment of a married woman with a child as a priest in the
Church of Denmark has revived the controversy about the issue of women priests.

Visnews filmed an interview recently with Danish minister, Mrs. Bodil Knok, to
record her views on the question.

Although women in Denmark have won the right to become priests, the decision
threatens to become an international issue in the church. Much bitterness has
been caused, not only in denmark, but in other European countries. Some Danish
churches refuse to allow women priests to officiate. In Sweden, the church has
decided to admit women to priesthood, but so far none have applied for
    ordination.

Dr. Fisher, Archbishop of Canterbury, recently sent a "Personal and Private"
letter to the church of Sweden pointing out that the Communion between the
churches of Sweden and England allowed Swedish priests to conduct services in
England. This he maintained, would cause embarrassment in England where women
are not allowed to conduct services.
