It was the twenty-fifty time the event had been held. Organiser was eighty-year-old Mr. Joseph Vanderstraeten, who has been responsible for it since its inception in 1947. Assistance ??? was given by the Royal Area Club of Belgium.

A large crowd gathered at the main square of Saint Nicolas, near Brussels, to watch the contestants lift off.

The event begins when a target balloon is released. Contestants lift off in order and are required to set down as close as possible to the site chosen by the target balloon to land.

Particular interest was caused yesterday by the entry of two United States competitors....the first to take part in the event.
