    North Vietnamese authorities have just released film which they say shows the aftermath of a United States Air Force raid on the centre of Hanoi.

    According to the North Vietnamese, the raid took place two weeks ago on 4 July, killing or wounding 60 civilians.

    Hanoi says the raid heavily damaged the living quarters of labourers who are engaged in the production of textile products. The University of Hanoi was also said to have been damaged in the attack.

    North Vietnamese say it has made a bitter protest to the U.S. government over what it calls the large-scale bombing of civilian living quarters.

    In Saigon, a spokesman for the U.S. military command said "we (the U.S.) are not targeting anything other than military targets".

    SYNOPSIS: North Vietnam has just released film which claims to show the aftermath of a United States bombing raid on the centre of Hanoi two weeks ago. North Vietnamese authorities say 60 civilians were killed or wounded and 30 houses destroyed during the attack. The dwellings were said to belong to labourers engaged in the production of textile goods. The North Vietnamese also claim that the University of Hanoi. They also say American warplanes struck at a Hanoi suburb, destroying another 100 homes.

    North Vietnam says it has protested to the U.S. government over what it calls the large-scale indiscriminate bombing of civilian residential areas.

    Despite the raids, Hanoi if full of morale-boosting posters and banners.

    The North Vietnamese claim the Americans used one-ton bombs in the raids.

    Despite the North Vietnamese accusations, a U.S. military spokesman said in Saigon that the United States was striking only at military targets.
