  • Description

South Africa's black-white dialogue took another step forward on Thursday (7 October), when Prime Minister John Vorster met a three-man ministerial delegation from the Ivory Coast. The delegation, led by Minister of State Dr. Blaise N'Dia Koffi, paid what a government official described as a courtesy call on Mr Vorster in his Pretoria offices.

There was fear in some political circles in South Africa that the international controversy -- sparked earlier this week by the landmine killing of a South African policeman by guerrillas near the Zambian border -- might effect the tentative contacts now being forged with the Ivory Coast.

The half-hour meeting between the Ivory Coast delegation was described as a private one, but is regarded as the first stage in expanding links between the two countries.
