  • Description

On a ten-day official visit to Malaya the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations, the Earl of Home, was filmed by Visnews touring a settlement of Malayan aborigines at Bukit
Lanjang near Kuala Lumpur Jan 24.

The aborigines who - with the influx of modern civilization - moved deeper and
deeper into the jungles are being "re-discovered" and resettled with provision
made for schools and other social amenities.

Some of the aborigines performed a dance in honour of Lord and Lady Home. Gaily
decked in their traditional costume of leaves - but otherwise dressed in
"modern" trousers - the old man danced to the rhythm of an aborigine orchestra
    of primitive drums.

Highlight of the programme was a demonstration of the amazing and deadly
accuracy of the aborigine blowpipes. Foot-long bamboo darts help to procure
    food.

Later, Lord Home was presented with a bunch of small sweet Rambai fruit which he
sampled aborigine women looked on with approval.
