  • Description

A bomb hoax forced West German Chancellor, Herr Willy Brandt, and his official party bound for Moscow and the signing of the non-aggression treaty with Russia, to leave their aircraft before it could take off from Bonn airport on Tuesday (11 August).

An anonymous caller rang the airport saying bomb was on board, just as the aircraft was waiting to take off at the end of the runway. After the crew had been warned of the possible danger the official party and other passengers were asked to disembark so that a thorough inspection of the aircraft could be made.

Herr Brandt, his party, and more than 100 journalist passengers were required to identify personal luggage which was offloaded and spread out on the grass beside the tarmac for checking.

No bomb was found, and the plane finally took off after 2 hours delay.
