    A MILITARY PARADE IN ATHENS YESTERDAY (TUESDAY) MARKED CELEBRATIONS OF THE 148TH ANNIVERSARY OF GREEK INDEPENDENCE. THE REGENT, LIEUTENANT-GENERAL GEORGE ZOITAKIS, AND THE GREEK CABINET, HEADED BY PRIME MINISTER GEORGE PAPADOPOULOS, TOOK THE SALUTE OF THE TROOPS AS THEY MARCHED PAST.

    GREEK TROOPS, ARMOURED VEHICLES AND 'HONEST JOHN' MISSILES TOOK PART IN THE PARADE.

    AMONG THOSE ATTENDING THE PARADE WAS AMERICAN LIEUTENANT-GENERAL BEN HARREL, SOUTH-EASTERN EUROPEAN NATO CHIEF. THE AMERICAN COMMANDER OF THE 6TH ALLIED TACTICAL AIR FORCE WAS ALSO PRESENT.

    IT WAS THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR THAI THE CELEBRATIONS TOOK PLACE WITHOUT THE PRESENCE OF THE GREEK ROYAL FAMILY, PARTICULARLY KING CONSTANTINE, WHO IS NOW IN EXILE.

    EARLIER, GREEK LEADERS ATTENDED A TE DEUM SERVICE AT ATHENS CATHEDRAL.
