Background: Zanzibar Jeshi held Somalia's Mogadishu Municipality to a goal-less draw in their East and Central African Club Cup soccer match in Nairobi, Kenya, on Sunday (11 January).

With Mwinjii Jeff marshalling Jeshi's well organised defence, the Tanzanian club kept a tight rein on the fast breaking Somalis.

Throughout the first half Mogadishu kept Jeshi pinned in their own half, but they couldn't finish off their attacking moves.

Mogadishu wingers Hassan Afifi and Mohamed Hussein weaved intricate dribbling patterns down both flanks and dive bombed their strikers with precision crosses, but the forwards let them down with poor finishing and shooting in the penalty area.

In the second half, Jeshi packed their defence with as many as eight players in the ten-yard box at the same time.

They relied on quick sporadic breaks to form their attacks, but these proved largely ineffective.

The draw leaves the semi-final qualifiers in Zone A of the Cup still undetermined.

SYNOPSIS: Zanzibar Jeshi used dour defensive tactics to hold Mogadishu Municipality to a goal-less draw in their East and Central African Club Cup match in Nairobi on Sunday.

With Mwinjii Jeff marshalling Jeshi's well organised defence, the Tanzanian club kept a tight marking system on the fast breaking Somalia. Jeshi were pinned in their own half for almost the entire first forty minutes of play, but Mogadishu could not finish off their attacking moves. Mogadishu wingers Hassan Afifi and Mohamed Hussein played intoxicating football on the flanks. They led constant raids deep into Jeshi territory and supplied their strikers with perfect crosses on numerous occasions only to see their hard work wasted by bad shooting.

In the second half, Jeshi really packed their defence. They used as many as eight men in their penalty at the same time, but Mogadishu kept on coming. Jeshi relied on sporadic quick breaks to mount the attacks, but these proved largely ineffective.

The goal-less draw still leaves the semi-final places of Zone A of the Cup undetermined.
