Background: The ninth Intervision Gymnastics Cup has been won in Moscow for the third time by Irina Deryughina of the Soviet Union. She's an 18-year-old physical education student, and she competed with gymnasts from Bulgaria, Hungary, East Germany, Poland, Rumanian, Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union.
SYNOPSIS: The cup was contested at the Central Army Club Palace of Weightlifting, a venue where the grace and beauty of Irina Deryughina completing the hoop section of the event would be rarely seen.
Irina is one of the Soviet Union's top gymnasts. This year she hasn't lost a single international tournament.
After the first day, Irina led from Svetla Kolchevska from Bulgaria. The second day brought no change in the placings. At the end Rodica Mazillu from Rumania was third. Irina Deryughina's next major competition is to be the world championships next year.
