    Union Hates President Gerald Ford and Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev made ???matic breakthrough to curb the nuclear arms race in Vladivostok on ??? (24 November). They signed a joint statement outlining ways to ??? sea and air-strike missiles as well as highly controversial multiple (???RV) warheads.

    The two leaders had been meeting in the eastern port for just over 24 hours both sides, it was reported, had agreed to an overall total of strategic delivers vehicles, including some topped with MIRVs.

    United States Secretary of State, Dr. Henry Kissinger, told newsmen that the agreement also included the American nuclear bomber fleet - a longstanding bone ???tention between Soviet and American military experts.

    Dr. Kissinger, and other American officials had earlier said that there was only a 50-50 chance of agreeing on the principles of a new nuclear pact.

    The agreement covers the period up to 1985. Detailed talks to finalise and cry??? what was agreed in Vladivostok will be held in Geneva next January. The agreement will incorporate relevant provisions of the May 1972 agreement - known as SALT - which expires in 1977.

    President Ford flew home from Vladivostok airport later the same day. He was ??? off by Leonid Brezhnev and other Soviet officials.
