    THE CHAIRMAN OF THE UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION, DR. GLENN SEABORG, HAS BEEN VISITING GHANA. DR. SEABORG, A FORMER NOBEL PRIZE WINNER WAS THERE FOR TWO DAYS TO ENCOURAGE CONTACT BETWEEN THE SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITIES OF AFRICA AND AMERICA.

    HE WAS ACCOMPANIED BY THE UNITED STATES AMBASSADOR TO GHANA, MR. THOMAS McELHINEY AND MR. HERMAN POLLACK OF THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE, SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL AFFAIRS. FIRST CALL WAS ON GHANA'S PRIME MINISTER, DR KOFI BUSIA, AT THE CASTLE, OSU.

    DR. MODZABEN DOWUONA, CHAIRMAN OF THE COUNCIL FOR INDUSTRIAL AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH, INTRODUCED DR. SEABORG TO DR. BUSIA. ALSO PRESENT WAS PROFESSOR J.K. QUARTEY, CHAIRMAN OF THE GHANA ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION.

    FROM THE CASTLE THE DELEGATION VISITED A NUMBER OF SCIENTIFIC INSTITUTIONS IN THE ACCRA AREA. AT THE NATIONAL CENTRE FOR RADIOISOTOPE APPLICATION AT KWABENYA THEY WERE RECEIVED BY DR. B. W. GARBRAH, THE OFFICER IN CHARGE.

    THE CENTRE WAS ESTABLISHED SIX MONTHS AGO TO PROMOTE AND CARRY OUT WORK INVOLVING THE USE OF RADIOISOTOPES IN AGRICULTURE, MEDICINE AND INDUSTRY. DESPITE A SHORTAGE OF EQUIPMENT THE CENTRE OFFERS SOME SERVICES TO INSTITUTIONS LIKE UNIVERSITIES, THE MEDICAL SCHOOL AND THE COCOA RESEARCH INSTITUTE AT TAFO.

    THE AMERICANS ALSO VISITED THE GHANA MEDICAL TEACHING HOSPITAL AT KORLE BU, WHERE THEY WERE RECEIVED BY PROFESSOR G. O. EASMON, DEAN OF THE GHANA MEDICAL SCHOOL.
