Background: On the outskirts of Rome, in GROTTAROSSA, five boys all under 26 years of age, are building a sailing boat in their own backyard. The work on the boat starts at night as far as all five of them have to spend the rest of the day on their own jobs. A student, a filling station boy, an electrician, a bus conductor, an office clerk.
To build the "Orsa Maggiore" (Great Bear) the five gave up smoking, cinemas and their girl friends as well. The girls got mad with them because they spent sundays working in the yard instead of bringing them out.
But it was worth trying because technicians as well as experienced boat builders who came expressly from Genoa and Leghorn, say that the Orsa Maggiore is a perfect boat with a new line.
Orsa Maggiore weights 16-18 tons, it's a yacht adapted a sketch Marconi; a length of 14.05 meters and 4 mt. width with two masts.
Inside there are eight berths a kitchen and even a small bathroom complete with shover. The motor will be a Diesel Fiat 614, 35HP. None of the boys has ever been out on sea not speaking of building a boat. They keep saving 5000 lire each every weak and dreaming about the South Seas and some far-away island.
