The Outbreak of Second World War - September 1939

On 1st September 1939 Germany aircraft bombed the city of Wielun in Poland and minutes later the battleship 'Schleswig-Holstein' bombarded the Polish port where it was on a "courtesy visit". The invasion of Poland which followed led the British Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain, to declare war on Germany in a radio broadcast on 3rd September 1939. The film 'German Invasion' is made up of captured German film and shows the bombardment of Danzig from a camera on board the 'Schleswig-Holstein'.
