Notes:The young trombonist in the Waldorf Brass Quintet films is Bert Quarmby (born Herbert Quarmby) from Leeds Yorkshire. Born in September 1923, Bert Quarmby was fifteen when this was filmed in London, two weeks before his sixteenth birthday. After several years touring with Archie\'s Juvenile Band, Quarmby had joined the Waldorf Brass Quintet just prior to the outbreak of war. At eighteen, he enlisted in the RAF where he eventually led the Middle East Dance Band in Egypt and Palestine. After he was demobbed in 1947, Quarmby formed the Bert Quarmby Band, a big band that played the principal dance halls on the Mecca circuit. Bert Quarmby is also credited by British jazz musician, Julian Joseph, with introducing him to jazz piano as a young boy.
