During the Great War, the Grand National was held at Gatwick - which is now the airport.
1946 - this was the first Grand National in 5yrs as Aintree had become a military base during WWII.
1956 - Dick Francis' horse, Devon Loch, falls just before the finishing line.
1963 the horse that came 7th, was owned by film star Gregory Peck.
1967 - the Big Pile Up. Foinavon won the race after he was the only horse to jump a fence after there was a big pile up at one of the fences.
