    Advertising film for "Yolande". Travelogue style promotional film. Produced under the Personal Direction of Joseph Lande and Herbert L. Miskend. Recorded by R.C.A. Photophone System.

    Intertitle reads: "Eight hundred miles southeast of Florida, bathed by the limpid waters of the Caribbean Sea lies our Island Paradise - Porto (sic) Rico". Puerto Rico. American narration. Beautiful beaches with palm trees. Sunset. History of the discovery of the island by Columbus. Aguadia. San Juan. Port of El Moro. Street scenes. Traffic policeman. New Capitol building in San Juan. Children running in the streets and sitting around a long table. A teacher puts plates on the table. The children walk down the school steps in a very orderly fashion. Roosevelt Jnr. has called Puerto Rico: "The Switzerland of America". Views of mountains. Crops are discussed. Sugar cane cultivation. Men work in the fields. Sugar cane is transported by primitive carts pulled by cows. Coffee is picked by a woman and a child. Fruit farm - men spray with pesticides. Two women pose with orange trees. Six Puerto Rican women weave hats from straw. One woman models the hat. Two elderly women sit in front of a porch doing some needlework. C/U of one of the women.

    The narrator talks of how it took the American initiative to organise this industry and bring it to life. City of Mayaguez. Large number of women walk into a needlework factory. The narrator points out how well dressed they are and talks of how modern American manufacturing methods are used in this up to date sanitary factory. Interior of factory where silk lingerie is produced. Women pulling threads and stencilling design on to fabric. C/U of design. Top shot of factory floor - nice shot of lots of women at work. C/U of woman showing her work. Narrator talks of the "horror of the sweat shops". C/U of finished work.

    Women work outside. Woman sews lace on to a pair of cami-knickers. Yolande boxes are stacked beside her on the table. C/U of a pair of feet in high heels as a woman steps into the knickers and pulls them up. Woman stands by her dressing table and admires her reflection. Woman in subdued lighting opens her flimsy dressing gown to display her lacy knickers. C/U of lace cami-knicker legs. Woman models a long slip. C/U of woman's back. Three women pose in long slips or night-gowns by a fire. Several outfits are displayed. A very see through slip is modelled with light shining through it. The outfits are referred to as "alluring snares of silk and lace". Woman does an extravagant mime of yawning and stretching as if ready for bed. Women leave the factory. Views of the countryside. Yacht on water with sun reflected at dusk.

    Note: the shots of women modelling the underwear are very nice. Some of the poses are quite sexy. Difficult to date this film as it is a nitrate print on Du Pont stock. Probably late 1930s or early 1940s.
