• Short Summary

Aviator C.W.A. Scott and his co-pilot Campbell Black fly from Mildenhall to Australia.

  • Description

Reel 3. Plane in flight. Spectators watch it coming in to land. It is a passenger aircraft. Royal Dutch Air Lines. Unidentified celebrity - probably Australian politician. Soldiers salute. The man is dressed in a white jacket and hat and has a white moustache. Photographs are taken as he stands and talks with pilot and crew of the plane. Scott's wife(?) Two men in Royal Air Force uniforms (?) stand by microphones - possible Scott and another, doesn't look like Campbell Black. Plane coming in to land at an airfield. It has an American flag painted on the side and the number 57 in a circle.

Writing on the tail reads: "Warner Bros. Comet". Very dark shots of interior of hanger. Men speak in to microphone (no sound). Shots of men outside with white moustached man. Scott, Black, Batten (?) and Edwards arrive at a reception. Integral sound. Scott makes a speech. They are at a theatre to see a production of "White Horse Inn" (?) Scott and Black are invited on to the stage and stand in front of assembled company.

Scott makes some jokes and the cast and audience laugh - sound is poor on this section so it is difficult to make out exactly what he says. McGregor and Walker - the two New Zealand pilots also come on to the stage. Man with the white moustache is on stage also. The British National Anthem is sung. Cars drive into an aircraft hangar. Aviators shake hands. Scott puts his cigarette out before climbing aboard a KLM aircraft.

Note: intermittent sound, some integral sound, some commentary.
