Russian religious service held at the front.
With the Russian Army - Religious Service At Front - 1915.
Eastern Front - Russia?
Rather odd footage. Long line of Russian soldiers in a shallow trench; standing with heads and chests sticking up from the ditch; and all facing away and to left; the men begin to pray; crossing themselves in repetition; over and over; as the Russian orthodox priest approaches; along with a couple of army guys. He walks into view; along the snow-covered ground on the edge of the trench. The priest carries a cross; which he moves around; he wears long dark robe with designs woven on front strip; has a long white beard - looks very traditional.
(Priest seems to be blessing the troops - SL.)
Ritual; ceremony; weird juxtaposition of setting and activity. World War One; military; religion.
