    Full title reads: "Brighton. With Impressive Masonic Ceremonial. Major R L Thornton Provincial Grand Master of Sussex lays foundation stone of the new Sussex Eye Hospital."

    Brighton, East Sussex.

    LS of a group of Freemasons in full regalia with sashes, gloves and aprons standing behind foundation stone. Major Thornton is speaking. He comments that the stone is set straight (very Masonic language used). He taps the stone into place with a mallet.

    Pan along exterior of building area as gathered people sing hymn.

    Major Thornton pours wine on the stone to bless it. Cut aways to show size of watching congregation. He pours oil onto the stone. Shots of Masons in the crowd.

    Additional information:

    - The film is taken from the South (Sudeley Terrace) looking towards Eastern Road.

    - The Sussex Eye Hospital was designed by John Leopald Denman.

    - The Sussex Eye Hospital moved to Eastern road becoming part of the RSCH campus, and is still in operation today (2018)

    - The cememorative stone is found on the Northern facade of the building, eastern end, and reads:
    ' This Foundation stone was laid with full masonic rights on Saturday the 7th October 1933 by Major R L Thornton C.B.E., D.L. R.W. Prov. Grand Master of Sussex'.
