I was an Ordinary Seaman on the Petri in '64 or '65 for two 45 day trips from Stockton to NJ. . . just a college student on one of a number of ships that were mostly throughout the Pacific to Asia. I was not aware that the Petri had actually broken in two earlier and her stern section was towed into Anchorage where it was used to provide power for 8 years before being put back together again and SS tanks installed for the wine and chemicals. There was a recent film about the Cape Cod rescue of the same kind of breakup on a sister ship. The film is "The Finest Hours" and it was like watching a home movie for me.

It is worth watching as the men are all gathered in the Fidley.
