Various shots of ballerina Anna Pavlova (1920s) in performance. American commentator invites us to guess who it is. People dance around her while others applaud, then she springs onto a table and dances on points. Cut to footage of playwright George Bernard Shaw walking across his garden with a walking stick. Commentator says "He's old, but he's fit!". Then we see footage of British silent film star Betty Balfour (1920s) in a fur coat, inspecting a group of men with bandy legs. Animated question mark spins around. Brief shots of Pavlova, Shaw and Balfour as commentator reveals the identity of each one.

Cut to footage of yarn being piled into a container and fed through lots of small holes in another part of machinery. Then several shots of an elaborate hat with a fish on a plate on top, plus lots of feathers and flowers. C/U of a man looking in disbelief. Animated question mark spins round. Commentator gives us the answers; shot of a girl leaning backwards to kiss the Blarney Stone. Shots of the yarn being spun into rope by a machine. M/S of a woman walking along wearing the bizarre hat in the street as people turn to look at her.
