Filmed excerpt from a humorous play, 'While Parents Sleep', at the Royalty Theatre.
Full titles read: "Now we're taking you over to the West End for a topical peep at 'While Parents Sleep' - the New Comedy at the Royalty Theatre, London. Lady Cattering (Miss Frances Doble) has fallen in love with Neville (Hugh Williams), and whilst Neville's brother, Jerry (Jack Hawkins) and his lady friend 'Bubbles' (Diana Beaumont) are out, Lady Cattering and Neville are otherwise engaged."
The scene opens with Neville (Hugh Williams in dinner suit) and Lady Cattering (Frances Doble in ostrich feather-trimmed negligee) kissing (good clinch!). She is lying on a settee, with her head resting on his lap. They talk of her husband, Lord Cattering and hope nobody comes in to disturb them. Just then, they hear Neville's brother and his girlfriend coming in, and instead of fleeing the lounge, they lie down on the settee and hope they are not discovered.
Neville's brother Jerry, played by an impossibly young Jack Hawkins and somewhat the worse for drink, comes in with 'Bubbles', played by Diana Beaumont. He gets her a drink and they start discussing Lady Cattering. Bubbles discovers Neville when she gets up to get a sandwich and screams from the shock. They soon discover Lady Cattering, silky negligee clutched around her shoulders; she is rather cool about the whole thing. Jerry tells Neville he is proud to be his brother.
