Great footage of the Wembley Exhibition of 1925.
Wembley Exhibition. Pageant in progress. Men with shields and horseback riders. A model galleon sails along and boats are rowed along a constructed river. People in the boats wave at people walking past dressed in Edwardian (?) costumes. A large group of tribesmen with shields and spears perform a war dance. Elephant tusks are carried and placed in front of a group of men in western dress. They drink from a gourd. Four young boys play bugles. A mock battle is staged. A group of women dance. Two knights on horseback joust - a cameraman is in shot. Much milling around of actors and actresses in costume. Parade of women on horseback. A panning shot gives an idea of the vast amount of people involved in the pageant. Sedan chair, elephants, parade of nations - traditional dress, warriors on horseback etc. Man dressed as Sir Walter Raleigh (?) presents a document to tribal chief. Women perform a traditional dance. A Quaker (?) family, model galleon, people arriving in boats.
Pilgrim Fathers arriving in the United States of America (?). Group of actors pose for the camera. Woman representing Queen Elizabeth I (?). "Britannia" is represented by a woman in tin helmet carrying a shield painted with the union jack. She is accompanied by a blindfolded woman carrying scales of justice. Following on behind in the parade is a large banner inscribed "Union of South Africa". Parade of people in various costumes. Horseback riders gallop across the enclosure. Actors representing various characters already seen are carried through an archway on Sedan chairs. Jester walks on his hands. Girls with fans perform a genteel dance. Man teases a performing baby bear. Men parade with flags. Horseback riders. Queen Elizabeth I represented, she walks over a bridge and is blessed by a bishop. Columbus probably in here somewhere!
