    The hall of the Venice Film Palace. The jury. The undersecretary to the spectacle handing the prizes over to their winners. For the best film the Grand Prix Golden Lion of San Marco goes to the Japan picture 'Muhomatsu no Issho' and is handed to its director Hiroshi Inagaki. Sophia Loren film actress awarded the Cup Volpi Di Misurata for her performance in "The Black Orchid" wears a jewel on her forehead at the bottom of her hairline. Louis Malle French film director and Francesco Rosi are being awarded a special prize for the best direction which they have shown respectively in their films "Les Aments" (France) and "La Sfida". The Japanese director shows his Golden Lion. David Lean gets in name of Alec Guinness the Cup Volpi di Misurata on behalf of Alec Guinness for his performance in "The Horse's Mouth". Following awarding ceremony, the Undersecretary to the spectacle addresses to the audience. The audience. fireworks. Sophia Loren walks up steps carrying the huge cup from the Film Palace.

    The Film Festival ran between the dates of 24th August and 7th September 1958.
