• Short Summary

Two year old Karen Stock rides her pony coached by her mother - sounds better than it looks.

  • Description

    Saffron Walden, Essex.

L/S of a picnic-like setting - a woman and a little girl are sitting on the blanket on the grass but instead of food, there is a horse equipment spread around. M/S of woman teaching the little girl to polish a little horse saddle. C/U shot of the girl's hand polishing the saddle. C/U shot of the woman's face as she observes.

A man brings a pony and the woman gets up taking a bridle from the blanket. Little girl takes the saddle and waits for her mother to put bridle on pony's head. Mother takes the saddle and puts it on the pony, then she lifts the girl up and puts her on the saddle.

The girl is two year old Karen Stock, probably the youngest horse rider in the country. Her Shetland pony's name is Johnny (she calls him Doddy) and she has been riding him since she was a baby. Karen won her first prize at the age of seven and a half months, coached by her mother, experienced show jumper Pamela Stock.

M/S of Karen on the pony. She tries to put her foot in the stirrup. C/U shot of the girl's hand, her foot and the stirrup - she cannot get her foot in so her mother does it for her. L/S of Mrs Stock leading the pony across the garden with Karen on its back. M/S of the three walking by the river (canal?) bank.
