• Short Summary

Great footage of the Post Office's 'Mail Tube', stretching from Whitechapel to Paddington.

  • Description

Full titles read: "The 'Tube' that takes no travellers. Deep below London's streets, and stretching 6 1/2 miles from Whitechapel to Paddington, runs the most unique 'Tube' in the world... the Post Office 'Robot' Railway."

    London.

M/S of one of the robot trains going slowly past a platform as men wheel trolleys along. A train goes speeding off through the tunnel. Great point-of-view shot taken from one of the mail trains as it stops at a platform; men take off one crate in front of us and load another one on. A man pulls a lever and the train starts off.

Some men empty bags of mail onto a conveyor belt. A man in the 'Switch Cabinet' answers a telephone and flicks switches on a control board that control the tracks of the system. Various shots of men sorting the bags of mail on a platform and wheeling crates onto the train. Good shot of the train speeding around a curve in the tunnel.
