Large crowds listen to speech by Mayor outside Town Hall. Annand saved his batman Private Joseph Hunter by carrying him in a wheelbarrow.

    "Annand" is Richard "Dickie" Annand.

    His was the first Victoria Cross won by the British Army during WWII.

    "Annand saved his batman" - his batman's name was Private Joseph Hunter.
