  • Short Summary

Two stories - an American town crier and a Brazilian man who speaks many dead languages.

  • Description

No title. L/S of an American street in a country town. A man walks towards the camera. L/S same street with a group of children walking towards the camera. Two of the children push prams. "Here Ye! Hear Ye! The news of the day -- I say!" L/S of town crier stopping in the street. He rings a bell and reads from an announcement. "The Crier is the news, the editorial and "the funnies" all in one." C/U of the crier who is an elderly man who smokes a pipe. According to paper records this story shot in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. "This linguist has a job trying to talk to someone. -- Rio de Janeiro, Brazil." C/U of a man with wild staring eyes. "He understands fourteen dead languages but has no one on earth to talk to." M/S of a man standing beside a sign which presumably states that he does translations. I think his name is Bernado Ramos. He moves the sign up by means of a handle at the side. Various old transcriptions are displayed including Sanskrit. "Won't he have a real old fashioned gab-fest when he reaches the next world!" He continues to wind up the sign.

Note: This is an extract from a "Walter Futter's Curiosities" film, presumably bought in by Pathe for reuse.

Some decomposition damage visible on the print.

    Safety neg only.
