M/S of people standing around in what seems like twilight, it goes steadily darker until nothing can be seen, then gradually the light returns.

M/S of the aeroplane's wing as it flies along, the ground below begins to go dark until there is only a little patch of light visible on the wing.
Intertitle - 'As daylight faded into twilight and darkness, the effects of the eclipse were evident.' M/S of chickens walking around. M/S of a bear in a cage washing itself, it lays down on its side as if to sleep, M/S as it scratches its back on the ground. M/S as people watch the eclipse through bits of cardboard with holes cut out of them. M/S of a man sat on the roof of a car doing the same, others stand near him. M/S of a child looking through a big telescope, other children crowd round him. Children heat pieces of glass and look through the blackened bit at the sun.
Intertitle - 'Months in advance, scientists prepared an exact schedule of the interplay of sun and moon - in "eclipse belt", noted astronomers train their telescopes skyward.' M/S as a dome is pulled back so the telescope can see out of the top.
Intertitle - 'Pathe news cameramen worked at New Haven for days with the Swarthmore College expedition, headed by Doctor John A. Miller - the equipment ranges from 15 foot camera up to a 65 foot apparatus.' L/S of the camera panning across the apparatus, M/S as they build a long telescope. Intertitle - 'Totality! The sun is blotted out - the "corona", magnificent spectacle of the total eclipse is visible for a few precious moments.' The moon moves over to cover the sun and the halo of light shines out from behind it. It passes across the other side and the sun is visible again.
