Further adventures of eccentric Bob Bartlett - this week his ship is stuck fast in the ice.
Full story title reads: "Now we continue our trip to Greenland's Icy Mountains - No. 5"
Introductory intertitle reads: "Along with bluff old Capt. Bartlett (who accompanied Peary to the Pole), we reach the great Ice Barrier in the staunch little Schooner 'Morrissey'."
M/S of Captain Bartlett who speaks to us from inside the boat, halfway up the steps from the galley. He tells the viewer that the expedition is stuck fast in the ice. He is hoping to be able to free the boat from the ice but says that if they can't free it, "It's just too bad." L/S of men aboard the Morrissey and standing on the ice working to free the boat. Various shots of the men preparing the dynamite which they will use to free the boat. Explosions as the dynamite is set off.
Great shots of the boat being freed and moving through the ice to open water. Billy the cook makes a hearty meal for the crew. Good shots of him taking a loaf of bread from the oven and making pancakes. C/U of maple syrup being poured over a stack of pancakes. Bartlett makes a crack about the pancakes putting hairs on their chests.
Moving shots of walrus swimming close to the boat. A lone Eskimo in a kayak harpoons the walrus. "Lots of little Eskimo babies will have a feast tonight" observes Bartlett as we see the walrus struggling to free itself.
Ends with an intertitle: "In next week's 'Pictorial' we will show what lies beyond the barrier - the happy hunting ground of the Arctic."
