One of Captain Bob Bartlett's crew stops "the old hermit" who is riding down the track on a donkey. Bob's crew member asks the hermit for directions. L/S of steaming hot springs - pools of thermal water. Various shots of steam rising and "arctic geysers".
Various shots of Icelandic greenhouses, heated by the steam from thermal activity. Bob describes how you will find lots of tropical plants. Bob also observes that there is plenty of hot water for washing clothes. Women lean over troughs of steaming water to wash their clothes - there are bars over the troughs to stop the women "from falling in while they gossip".
