    Event was held on 3 April 1961.

    "Dicky Dale" should read "Dickie Dale"

    "P Driver" is Paddy Driver.

    I raced a 1960 BSA Gold Star 500cc DBD34 at Thruxton about 1960 to 1963 in a club race. It was my first race on the Gold Star and it did not start on the starting grid. In those days we had to run and bump start the engine. I turned the bike around to go back to the pits and realised the starting grid was slightly uphill so I tried starting the engine again and it fired that time so I turned around and raced off after the pack. I did manage to catch them up and passed quite a few but did not win that race. I did however ruin a set of boots when cornering in that race. I think the bike touched 110 mph in that race.
    I have some photos of that race.
    Later I went on to race at various circuits around the country including Silverstone.
