People of Atherstone chase after a large football as part of ancient Shrove Tuesday ritual.

  • Description

Titles read: "THEY'RE AT IT AGAIN".

    Atherstone, Warwickshire.

Various shots show a huge free-for-all football game / ritual that takes place each Shrove Tuesday in the town of Atherstone. Comedian Derek Roy throws a large football from a window into the street below and a crowd of people rush about after it.

Several shots of men running with the ball, shoving each other about, kicking the ball into the air and running after it. People tear the shutters off a local shop. Women try to get out of the way of the rough-heads; one falls over in the crush. Some men tackling each other for the ball fall into a river. It looks very cold.
