Mind-boggling item works out areas that the entire population of the world could fit into.
Titles read: "THE WORLD AND ITS PEOPLE - Is the world overcrowded?"
High angle shot of a large crowd of people.
Intertitles and animated maps and diagrams explain how the population of the earth is spread about the world.
In the Pathe studio a man measures out a 6 ft square and beckons a group of women and men to stand inside it (probably Pathe staff). More animated diagrams as we are shown calculations of how many people there are per square mile (20,000,000 if you must know!). Diagrams explain that the entire population of the world could stand on an area of 10 miles by 10 miles - a section of the Isle of Wight!
More animation and live action shows that the world's population standing in line would reach around the moon and back. Also, if you made a cube the height and width of 14 Nelson's Column you could put all the people in the world in it.
Animation shows a man in nightgown and nightcap holding a candle. There are already 3 people in his bed so he sets off for the Isle of Wight, where there's still room!
Cataloguer's note: this is one to keep you awake at night.
