The young trombonist is sixteen-year-old Bert Quarmby (Herbert Quarmby from Leeds, born September 10, 1923). After demobilization from the RAF in 1947, having served in Egypt during WW2, he went on to form Bert Quarmby and His Band, popular on the Mecca circuit until the early 1960s.
