Reel 5. The modern "honeycomb" radiator is illustrated by drawings and by cross section. The fan which revolves behind the radiator is shown in C/U. Thermostat is explained via an animation. Various cooling systems are described and illustrated via animations. The engine is started - C/U of man's hand as he turns a starting handle on the front of the car. C/U of gas escaping from the exhaust pipe as the car starts up. C/U of man's foot and leg as he depresses the foot pedal. The sides of the car have been stripped away to show the workings. C/U of exhaust pipe. C/U of feet on the pedals from a high angle. C/U of starter motor. C/U of Bendix pinion. An animation explains the operation of the starter motor. We then see a C/U section of the starter motor in action. Location of starter motor is indicated. C/U of cogs and teeth. Another animation shows the buffer spring in action. The cooling system is described. An animation of a thermometer shows the optimum temperature for the car engine. The theory of Thermo-syphon is explained through a diagram and animation. Drawing of the car engine is used to indicate how the fan keeps a good flow of cool air through the radiator. The pump system is explained through a graphic animation. C/U of water being poured into the radiator. The car is a Morris. C/U of the radiator - dissolve reveals the internal structure of the radiator. A section of the radiator grill is isolated.
