  • Short Summary

A new gadget which opens doors automatically in a Lyons Tea House is featured.

  • Description

A device which makes doors open automatically is demonstrated.

M/S of a waitress walking towards a door with a sign that reads: "Service" above it. The "robot door" opens as she approaches, showing a chef standing in the kitchen beyond. The door closes behind her.

"Using this door, "Nippy" has less chance of an accident with her trays - " Closer shot of the waitress walking into shot then towards the door. The door opens and closes. C/U of the gadget which operates the door. "This ingenious device relies on a beam of light and a photo-electric cell. When the beam is "broken" by "Nippy" passing, special valve amplifiers start the machine working and the door opens - " Two waitresses walk through the door. Shot from the other side of the door showing the machine which operates the door. Waitress walks through. More shots of the door opening and closing.

Was an item in Eve's Film Review issue number 506.

Note: presumably this has been shot in a Lyons Tea House or Lyons Corner House as it features "Nippies". The door doesn't seem to work very well - takes a while to close.
