Lovely film showing Chelsea Pensioners working in the Hospital gardens.
Chelsea Pensioners get to work in the Hospital garden.
They walk down a colonnade carrying watering cans, spades and hoes. Shots of much gardening activity. Watering plants, digging etc. C/U of a man in a cap weeding. In the centre of the garden is an ornamental tower. A man repaints the tower. Three young children look at some plants with one of the Pensioners. Intertitle reads: "Everything from a musk leaf to a musket figures in their debates... but they're as proud of their garden as any man could be". A group of the men sit on a bench chatting and looking at the garden. Pieces of plant are passed around and three of the men sniff them. They are all smoking pipes. Five of the men fill their watering cans from a large metal tank. Eight of them walk along together watering the ground in synchronisation.
Shot of the men in the colonnade in uniform lifting aloft mugs of tea. C/U of faces obscured by large mugs. They wipe their moustaches and smile at the camera after draining their mugs.
Note: well-shot feel-good film!
